Fur Care Tips

Ten Ways To Keep Your Fur and Shearling In Top Condition

  1. Always place your furs and shearlings in Cold Storage at Traeger Furs. Traeger provides an on-site Cold Storage facility and service center to care for your garment during the warm summer months.
  2. Never store your furs at home, especially in cedar closets or basements. Because the air is kept dry in cedar to prevent moths, it can also dry out the pelts, causing them to become brittle, crack and split. Basements tend to be damp and can cause mildew.
  3. Never mothproof your fur. Home treatments are no substitute for professional services.
  4. Always hang your fur on a broad-shouldered hanger – never on a wire hanger. Be sure to give your garment plenty of room in your closet so it won’t be crushed.
  5. Never cover your fur in a plastic bag. The plastic prevents air from circulating, crushes the fur and rapidly dries out the hide.
  6. Bring you fur to the Traeger’s for any repairs such as tears or rips immediately to prevent more extensive and expensive repairs later.
  7. If your fur gets wet, shake it out and allow it to air dry. Always keep away from direct heat which will cause both the hide to become dry and brittle. After the fur air dries, shake it again to fluff it up. If your garment gets water-soaked, you must take it to Traeger Furs immediately for proper treatment in order for it to remain soft and retain its shape.
  8. Try not to use shoulder straps or a handbag over your shoulder on a consistent basis as this is abrasive and will cause worn areas. The same applies to resting elbows on armrests. Always use care with closures.
  9. Enjoy the warmth and beauty of your garment and always bring them to Traeger Furs to ensure they receive the finest fur care possible!
